Wonders of Watercolours

What a brilliant day we had today under the tutelage of Jake Winkle. The day was split into two workshops - in the morning we painted a highland cow and in the afternoon some penguins. We started in the morning learning about Jake's direct style, creating uncluttered and fresh looking watercolours. He stressed the importance of being organised because we were using wet into wet technique - and once you start, you have to have everything to hand as you can't stop as the paint dries quickly. After a quick practice working out paint consistencies, we started on the real thing. We always worked from palest to darkest so that the light areas would always show through. Look at these amazing results!

In the afternoon we turned our hand to Skating Penguins and followed Jake's directions to produce some wonderful masterpieces. We used wet on wet and dry techniques and put what we had learned in the morning into practice in the afternoon with some amazing results.
